Joining the Restoration Dots: Connecting Casework to SDM® SARA outcomes to Family Time to Family Action Case Planning

This is the foundation course that lays out the connections between SARA assessments, the Family Action Plan, Family (Contact) Time and documenting evidence of change for S90 applications. This is a highly interactive workshop, calling on participants' own casework for exploration. The two hour coaching session to be held 3 weeks after the workshop will bring practitioners and supervisors together to debrief practice experiences, share learning, solution finding for ‘wicked little problems’ and offering further practice opportunities.

Stage 1 – Half day workshop

Content:

  • Unpack the legislative requirements of S90
  • Revisiting the SDM® SARA tools
  • Overview of the domains of Family Time and unpacking each domain – setting the benchmarks for ‘good enough’ parenting
  • Connect the outcomes of the SDM SARA tools and Family Time to influence the direction of the Family Action Plan
  • Document parental actions of protection demonstrated over time, Family Time observations of safe parenting
  • Develop and document rigorous Long-Term Safety and Support plans to enable confident closure decisions

Practice activities incorporated intensively throughout the one-day program, focussing on:

  • Deepening understanding of the SARA tools
  • Detailing the domains of Family Time and good enough parenting
  • Recording evidence of enhanced safety and parenting abilities for S90 applications
  • Knowledge Translation Sheet for ‘homework’ with supervisor

Stage 2 – 2 hour coaching session

One x two hour coaching session to be held 3 weeks after the workshop to bring practitioners and supervisors together to debrief practice experiences, share learning, solution finding for ‘wicked little problems’ and offering further practice opportunities.

  • Explore practice opportunities
  • Review the requirements of S90, Family Time Domains and ‘good enough’ parenting
  • Review documenting the Family Action Plan
  • Critique documentation efforts
