Vicarious Trauma
This course has no current classes. Please the waiting list.
In the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of understanding and addressing vicarious trauma has never been more crucial. Often referred to as the "cost of caring", VT occurs when individuals absorb the emotional and psychological experiences of those they assist, leading to symptoms similar to those experienced by direct trauma survivors.
In this 3-hr workshop, we will explore what VT is, how to identify it, how it can impact our physical and psychological health, and the neurobiological mechanisms that underlie it. We will also discuss a range of effective strategies and interventions to minimise the incidence, and mitigate the impact, of vicarious trauma of helping professionals.
