Mandy (Amanda) has over 30 years' experience in the welfare sector. She has worked in a wide range of roles including as a social worker, counsellor, clinical supervisor, coordinator and educator. She has particular expertise working with clients with complex issues including mental health and substance use orders and reintegration into the community after incarceration.
With a passion for Indigenous rights, she is a staunch advocate for colonised, Indigenous peoples to achieve their rightful status within their own countries, including the right to self -determination.
She believes that to be most powerful, teaching and learning needs to: honour and draw on the expertise of learners; be interactive; be relevant; encourage reflective and critical thinking; and ultimately contribute to transformation of work practice and society.
Mandy draws on her professional and cultural knowledge along with her lived experience expertise as a mental health consumer and survivor of childhood and adult violence and trauma to inform her practice.
Mandy is a qualified social worker and AOD counsellor and holds Diplomas in Community Services Coordination, Mental Health/AOD, Community Services, Leadership & Management, a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, (TAE), and a post-graduate Adult Education degree.
