Cath Laws is currently president of Protective Behaviours Consultancy Group of NSW Inc. She has worked in education teaching in regular and special settings, including leading schools for those categorised as having emotional and behavioural disorders and juvenile justice schools. She has also worked in out of school contexts in NSW state child protection policy and as NSW state wide Manager, Behaviour Programs. Cath has always been interested in examining the ways children living at the margins are positioned and looked at the discourses operating for, on and with these children and young people for her PHD thesis ‘Poststructuralism at work with marginalised children’. Through her focus on child abuse prevention, Cath is the author of many of resources developed by Protective Behaviours, a registered harm prevention charity. While Cath is now retired she continues to write resources and present Protective Behaviours training. She reads her life’s work as exploring ways those at the margins can come to act with agency and be read/read themselves differently.
