The Restoration Journey: understanding the legal process and agency responsibility

This is the foundation course that lays out the legal journey from entry to permanency for children and families in the care system. This highly interactive workshop addresses the main interagency responsibilities and the sections of the care and protection legislation important for the restoration process.

This course is presented as a one day workshop, followed by a 2 hour group coaching sessions 3 - 4 weeks after the workshop.

Workshop Content: o Journey into care – S27 ‘risk of significant harm’ and S72 ‘in need of care and protection’ o Court process overview o Joining the dots between the Care Plan, the Summary of Proposed Plan and the Family Action Case Plan – unpacking the elements of the process o S82 Reports: purpose, frequency, documentation required and agency responsibilities o S90 Reports: purpose, evidence, documentation required and agency responsibilities o S76 Reports: purpose, evidence and documentation required o Affidavits: purpose, evidence and documentation required

Workshop practice activities incorporated intensively throughout the one-day program, focussing on: o Mapping relationship between S27, S72, Summary of Proposed Plan and family Action Plan o Unpacking S82, S90 and S76 using a family case study o Requirements for evidence recording and writing an affidavit o Knowledge Translation Sheet for ‘homework’ with supervisor

Coaching Session 1 content: o Debrief Knowledge Translation Sheet for ‘homework’ undertaken with supervisor o Review assessment practice questions relating to abuse dynamics o Unpacking practice attempts at Immediate Safety Planning with different abuse dynamics o Deepening skills - practicing developing Immediate safety Plans “in the moment” with families.

Coaching Session 2 content: o Review assessment practice questions relating to abuse dynamics o Unpacking practice attempts at Longer Term Safety and Support Planning with different abuse dynamics o Deepening skills - practicing developing Longer Term Safety and Support Planning conversations with families.
