Positive Behaviour Support for High Needs Kids

This course has no current classes. Please the waiting list.

Children and young people in out-of-home care often display behaviours that are challenging both for carers, and other people in the community. During this workshop you will gain an understanding of what positive behaviour support is, and learn about the basic underpinning framework. This is an essential prerequisite for providing support to children with high needs in residential care, intensive foster care and supported family placements.

This workshop will provide participants with current information and theory combined with practical ideas about how to understand, and better support children with behaviour support requirements.

This two day workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to:

  • Gain an overview understanding of challenging behaviour
  • Use behavioural assessments
  • Understand 'The Box'
  • Develop skills to plan for challenging behaviour and incident management
  • Develop behaviour intervention support plans
  • Identify core strengths and work with positives
  • Use ecological supports: routines, star charts and house rules
