With our attention focused on the rapidly increasing numbers of children and young people entering care in NSW over the last decade, it is easy to neglect the crucial issue of young people leaving care. It is universally acknowledged by child welfare professionals, that ‘leaving care’ is a vulnerable and difficult transition period for young people. At the same time, supports and services are often ‘thin on the ground’. What are the specific risks, issues and experiences for young people leaving care? What predictors and factors improve the outcomes for young people leaving care?

This workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to:

  • Be introduced to a range of effective strategies
  • Develop a holistic and empowerment-based approach to preparing and supporting young people leaving care
  • Get up to date with current government schemes that benefit young people leaving care

Who should attend?
