This advanced course builds on the information and skills covered in the Introduction course and furthers participants’ knowledge, skills and confidence by covering:
- Child development and how it relates to interviewing practice
- How to question children in a developmentally appropriate way
- How to plan for an interview a child with disabilities
- Using various age appropriate tools to invite, support and record disclosures
- Cognitive interviewing techniques and conversation management tools
- Managing the outcomes of the interview
This advanced course is a highly interactive and practical workshop that balances theory, interview practice and the use of child focused interviewing tools. Participants’ confidence and competence will interview children in a more proficient way resulting in reduction in the number of times a child may need to be interviewed.

- What are some of the planning issues I need to think about before I interview a child?
- What are some of the child development issues I need to think about before I start the interview with a child?
