GambleAware Legal Education and Engagement Program
The GambleAware Legal Education and Engagement Program objectives are to engage with and educate GambleAware providers about:
- Common legal issues that people experiencing gambling harm face
- How to navigate the legal system to support and refer clients
- Establishing relationships with legal providers in their region
The Program will also raise awareness amongst legal providers such as Legal Aid, community legal centres and pro bono firms in each region about gambling and gambling harm, and how it can be a cause of legal issues facing a client.

Phase 1: Stakeholder Consultation
In Phase 1 of the program, Donna Bevan consulted with stakeholders across New South Wales to identify the issues that were common across this area of work, but also were specific to each particular region. This information has been analysed and a range of education resources are being developed to provide insight and information on these issues.
Phase 2: Resources and Regional Events
We are now moving into Phase 2—during which the educational resources will be developed and made available, and an event will be held in each region to increase awareness of the issues, provide information and an opportunity to discuss these issues, and to network with your regional colleagues.
These regional events have been tailored to the needs of each region. In general though, each event will include:- A workshop on one of the identified topics
- A presentation by GambleAware Aboriginal Service
- Networking opportunities over lunch
