ACWA’s online safety resources for children and young people in care and their caregivers

ACWA is pleased to announce the completion of its national project – funded by an online safety grant from the eSafety Commissioner – to co-design and develop resources aimed at raising awareness of online safety among children and young people in care and their caregivers.
The resources include a series of short videos for children and young people in out-of-home care, as well as fact sheets and an online training course for caregivers, all linked below. The direct involvement of children and carers in the content development and creative design process ensures the advice provided is both real and relevant.

A Collaborative Effort With National Support

ACWA extends its gratitude to SNAICC, the national non-government peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, for leading the development of the videos created specifically for Aboriginal children and young people.
We also thank the Child and Family Wellbeing Association of Australia (CAFWAA), its state and territory member peaks, and their member agencies, as well as the CREATE Foundation, for actively supporting the project. Together, they helped bring more than 300 voices — children and young people in care, their carers, care leavers, and practitioners — into the co-design process, ensuring the resources reflect lived experiences and practical insights.

Online training videos for carers

This learning resource has been co-designed with carers for use by other carers and includes videos from carers throughout giving advice drawn from and valuable insights into their first-hand experiences. It has also been informed by our consultations with children and young people in out-of-home care and the videos they created about online safety for their peers.

There are six modules that you can complete. You can choose the module that is most relevant to you or start at the beginning – whatever works best. The course is designed so you can watch and learn at your own pace.
