Working with Young People Who Have Experienced Trauma (Training Only)

Trauma and its ongoing effects has been recognised as a major influence on the development of young people, and it must be recognised and worked with in order for positive outcomes to be achieved. This workshop provides an overview of what trauma is and how to effectively support young people who have experienced trauma. This includes the effect of trauma on attachment.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Create a safe environment for those affected by trauma
  • Respond appropriately to disclosure and expressions of trauma by clients
  • Deliver appropriate services to young people affected by trauma
  • Provide support to families and carers
  • Manage their own self care

Who should attend?

Residential care workers, foster care workers, contact workers and youth workers

Please note: If you wish to undertake assessment for this course, enrol in the Assessment Only version of this course as well as this workshop.

Assessments are made against units of competency.
  • Work effectively in trauma informed care (CHCMHS007)
  • Work with children and young people with complex trauma and attachment issues and needs (CHCPRT010)
