Supporting Independence and Resilience with Clients

Do you find yourself making decisions for clients? Or do you work with people who are seemingly unwilling or unable to make decisions for themselves? If you are looking for lots of practical tools and resources to work with client motivation, resilience and life skills – this is the course for you. Explore theories of motivation, resilience and authentic success along with plenty of practical resources and frameworks to using them effectively.

During this workshop you will also look at strategies to assist your clients to identify, develop and maintain meaningful networks, as well as independently access support services.

Participants will learn:

  • An overview of both client-focused and strengths-based work and the associated skills to foster these practices
  • Tools and strategies to help you provide support to clients that meets their needs
  • Strategies to support clients to identify and use their personal strengths, self care capacities, and how to maintain these
  • How to assist clients to both identify existing positive coping skills and resilience and develop new ones
  • How to empower and support clients to make informed choices and decisions
  • About effective goal setting and care plans
  • About motivation, where it comes from and how to work with client motivation and resistance
  • How to develop tools to build resilience
  • About unhelpful work that might feed into learned helplessness
